Kathmandu:
This movie is above average, a good laugh, a good ‘time pass’ movie. Compared to the comedy flicks that have been hitting the screens lately, it isn’t exceedingly hilarious but there is a consistency to it that makes you enjoy it right from the start to the end. At times it does get tiring, but you are relieved with a funny escapade after such a scene.
The story is about four people in a mental hospital each having a problem of his own. Gangadahr (Rajpal Yadav) is still in the era where Gandhi is fighting for independence, Raja (Arshad Warsi), who otherwise seems normal, cannot control his anger and turns excessively violent when angered, Mukherjee (Irrfan Khan) has a personality disorder thinking himself as some other character, whereas no one till now has heard or ever expects Dabboo (Suresh Menon) to speak a word.
Dr Sonali (Juhi Chawla) is giving them group therapy and on one occasion decides to take them to watch a cricket match to help improve their condition. Unfortunately, when she stops to visit her clinic, she is kidnapped which Daboo sees but does not speak of. The story then follows the antics of these four, the suspense that gradually unfolds, the chaos amidst all that and how these four become involved in the kidnapping racket in a bid to help Juhi.
When the best of the comedy actors Bollywood currently has have come together, then the can’t go wrong. It has Irrfan Khan in his convincingly detached yet comical role, Rajpal Yadav giving yet another performance which deserves an applause. Arshad Warsi, though funny, seems a bit out of his element and Suresh Menon’s expressions too are good. It is their acting skills which is light and funny without being overtly loud that makes the movie easygoing. Juhi looks sweet and innocent and suits the role. Dia Mirza and Rajat Kapoor have small yet important roles which they carry off well.
First time director Jaideep Sen has made a good movie, from the selection of actors to letting the movie flow along though it has a few hiccups. Its different themes and plots from a kidnapping to the personal lives of these four that have been nicely intertwined together by Ashwani Dhir, but it has nothing new or refreshing to offer.
The music has already been noticed with Rakhi Sawant showing her moves or SRK and Hrithik displaying their dancing skills. The music is entertaining and different as it forms part of the story at times. But this is a movie which would have moved along as smoothly even without the songs.
A fun movie that will have you laughing and feeling satisfied when you leave the movie hall.
