Maoists bag three Makwanpur seats, sweep Dhankuta

The CPN (Maoist) has bagged three of the four seats of Makwanpur district.
According to an announcement by the district election office this evening, Maoist candidate Dil Bahadur Ghising won from seat 1, bagging 21,027 votes. His nearest rival Badri Prasad Chaulagain of the CPN-UML secured 9,475 votes.
In seat 2, Maoist candidate Prem Bahadur Pulami Chhintu netted 16,976 votes while his nearest rival Bir Bahadur Lama of CPN-UML secured 10,223 votes. In seat 3, Maoist candidate Prahlad Lamichhane Samir netted 18,512 votes while his nearest rival Ananta Poudel of CPN-UML secured 13,161 votes.
Counting was going on for seat 4 where Maoist candidate Kumari Moktan is leading. The district election office has already given certificates of recognition to the three victorious Maoist candidates.
Earlier, CPN-UML had always held sway in seats 1, 2 and 3 of Makwanpur. royal regime minister and Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal candidate Kamal Thapa, who contested from seat 3, secured 3,540 votes.
Makwanpur seat 1 has 75,925 voters; seat 2 has 65,483; seat 3 has 82,623 and seat 4 has 64, 837 voters. Nepali Congress trailed in third position in all the three declared seats.
A report from Dhankuta district said after the Maoists turned victorious from both of the constituencies of Dhankuta district, Maoist cadres and voters performed victory rally all through the day today.
Dhankuta-2 candidate Hari Raj Khewa participated among thousands of his party cadres and well-wishers to celebrate the victory in Dhankuta bazaar while constituency number 1 candidate of CPN-Maoist Hem Raj Bhandary could not attend the rally due to his health.
In Bardiya, Maoists celebrated victory rally with the tune of Panche Baja for their victory in all 4 constituencies of the district. Maoist cadres from villages were piling in Gulariya to celebrate the victory.
In Kaski-4, the Maoists performed victory rally with musical bands after party’s Durga BK was elected for the CA election. The rally began from Kaski DDC and roamed different places of Pokhara. Participation of Maoist cadres in the rally was exuberant.
A report from Rolpa said Maoists are preparing for victory rally even though counting of votes is underway in Rolpa. By late tonight, CPN-Maoist’s Jayapuri Gharti in constituency no 1 and Prachanda in 2 were ahead with large number of seats in comparing with their rivals.
