Wushu team leaves for Dhaka

Kathmandu, April 19:

A 33-member Wushu team left today for Bangladesh to take part in the third South Asian Wushu Championship to be held in Dhaka from April 20-27.

The team comprises of 25 players — 14 men and 11 women — who will participate in Thaulo and San Shou events. Bikash Gurung (Chang Quan), Ramesh Suwal (Chang Quan), Raju Maharjan (Nan Quan), Sajan Desemaru (Nan Quan), Aang Babu Lama (Taiji), Roshan Gurung (Taiji) will take part in men’s Thaulo events.

Bhuvan Shrestha (Chang Quan), Srijana Gurung (Chang Quan), Bidhya Maharjan (Nan Quan), Kalpana Sunuwar (Nan Quan), Sarmila Karanjit (Taiji) and Binita Maharjan (Taiji) are the women Thaulo players.

Gyan Bahadur Pakhrin (48kg), Raj Kumar Rasaili (52kg), Yubaraj Gurung (56kg), Manmohan Baniya (60kg), Bir Singh Tamang (65kg), Purushottam Rijal (70kg), Ramesh Tamang (75kg) and Rajiv Maharjan (80kg) will fight in men’s San Shou events. The women San Shou players are Sami Lama (48kg), Urmila Shrestha (52kg), Chhabi Gurung (56kg), Nilam Ramjali (60kg) and Shahansila Shrestha (65kg).

The officials in the San Shou section are Pranil Dhoj Karki (manager), Namoraj Lama (coach), Ganesh Prasad Aryal and Chok Bahadur Thapa Marsangi (judges). Ramesh Kumar Tuladhar is the team manager in Thaulo section, while Panchaman Maharjan is the coach and Amber Kumar Theeng and Prakash Bahadur Lama are the judges. Member Secretary of National Sports Council Jeevan Ram Shrestha bade farewell to the team.
