By Rishi Singh

English is one of the most popular languages having earned popularity in every corner of the world. We are able to communicate with different people of different places through this language. English has become an international language. It is even included in the curriculum of schools and colleges of different countries.

The common questions one may ask related to English are — Why should we learn English? Why we are often told to speak English? What is its importance after all?

There are various reasons behind it. If we take a proper look we will see the need of English language in this advanced world. We will find that English language has great value.

Human beings are ambitious by nature. We have our aims and targets. Some of us want to be doctors, engineers, pilots, teachers, and we some may have other goals. Without English it becomes more difficult to make our dreams come true as most of the books on Medicine, Environment, Economics, and Science are in English and also the reference books. Without knowing English it is practically impossible for any person to enlarge his/her horizon.

One importance of learning English is to get a job. A candidate fluent in English has a higher chance of getting jobs in any sector — be it government or non-government.

When we participate in international seminars, assemblies, functions organised by different organisations, the mode of communication is English.

In context of Nepal, most of the students go to foreign countries for their higher studies where classes are conducted in English. And the mode of communication is English for those who don’t know other foreign languages. Similarly, Nepal being a beautiful country, thousands of tourists visit Nepal. To communicate with them we must understand English.

Moreover most of the movies, tele-serials and news is broadcast in English. It is obvious that English, the international language, plays a great role in the betterment of a person’s status. Thus, it is important for us to learn English language.
