Eid-Ul-Zoha celebrated
BARA:
The Muslim community in Bara district celebrated Eid-Ul-Zoha today. Jafarul Ansari of Kalaiya-7 said, the Muslim festival Eid-Ul-Zoha, also known as Kurbani, washes away the evil thinking and preaches the message to Muslims that one should not hesitate even to sacrifice oneself for safeguarding the religious convictions. Pilgrims thronged the nearby Idgah or Masjid for reciting the Namaj since the morning, said Mauladin Mansur of Kalaiya-3. On this occasion, Muslims greet one another, distribute sweets and eat special dishes made with the meat of sacrificed animals and also invite friends for feast, Mansur told. — HNS
Bandh cripples Siraha
LAHAN:
Life ground to a halt on Friday in Siraha district on the first day of the Maoist-called bandh. The Maoists have called the bandh to protest the killing of their cadres by security forces. Security forces escorted over 60 vehicles on Mahendra highway towards the east, Lahan area police office said. The main bazaars in the district including headquarters Siraha, Mirchaiya and Gol Bazaar remained shut. The bandh in Siraha districts, affected Udayapur district too. No vehicle plied in its headquarters Gaighat or other bazaars, Katari and Beltar. — HNS
Mahayagya begins
POKHARA:
A Gyan Mahayagya has started at the Bindhabashini temple to raise fund for development of the Bindhabashini religious area. There are plans to construct a modern park at Bindhabashini area to develop it as a peaceful and scenic place. Buddhist Guru Min Bahadur Lama, at the inauguration programme, said that peace will be restored in the nation if we remember and work according to Buddha’s thoughts. National chairman of the World Hindu Federation Narayan Prasad Pokharel said that the people should exercise discipline and dignity to help restore peace. — RSS
Schools’ closure protested
SUNSARI:
Teachers, students and parents organised a rally in Inaruwa, district headquarters of Sunsari, against the two week-long educational strike announced by the All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary just before the SLC Test Exam. The rally started from Santi Chowk and proceeded to the municipality with an appeal to withdrawn the strike. Over a dozen organisations have also appealled to the ANNISU-R to withdraw strike. — RSS
Road construction begins
CHAINPUR:
Construction of a motorable road from Chainpur Tudikhel to Mawadin VDC has started in Sankuwashava. Head of the Area Administration Office Prakash Prasad Pokharel inaugurated the road at a programme in which over 500 people participated.— RSS
Maoists detonate bomb
LEKHNATH:
A group of Maoists denoted a bomb at the house of former state minister Lachya Bahadur Gurung in Armala village development committee ward number 9 of Kaski district. A group of nine Maoist cadres including three women denoted the bomb at 2 in the night after taking guard Kasiram Pariyar in their control, it is reported. — RSS
