Pokhara, April 30:

Police seized a cache of weapons and ammunition from a taxi last night at Lekhnath, Kaski and have arrested one person in this connection.

Two bags containing an Italian revolver and a country-made pistol, bullets, grenade and a khukuri were confiscated. “Taxi driver Rit Bahadur Tamang of Ramechhap district was arrested,” police said, adding that two passengers in the taxi have absonded.

Danda police post in-charge, Shaligram Poudel, said that during interrogation Tamang told them that the two had taken the taxi from Damauli, Tanahun.

Poudel added that Tamang described “one as having Madhesi features while the other had Mongolian features”.

Police suspect the two might be members of criminal gang or some underground outfit.

“The seized arms and ammunition would be hander over to the Kaski district police headquarters,” the in-charge of Danda police post said.
