Food security urged to avert crisis

Officials of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and UN
World Food Programme, Nepal office discussed on food security situation in Nepal.
A three-member delegation led by WFP-Nepal resident representative Richard F Ragan today met Suraj Vaidya, senior vice-president of FNCCI at the latter’s office.
They discussed on food security as well as measures to be taken for safeguarding Nepal from global food crisis, states a press release issued here by the FNCCI today.
The meeting also discussed on measures for effective food security and its management, as well as stressed the need of public awareness on the matter among the concerned stakeholders including consumers, private sector and civil society.
Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry and World Food Programme-Nepal are planning to hold a joint round table discussion on food security.
Vaidya underscored the need for a tripartite coordination and cooperation among the government, UN agencies and the private sector to avert food crisis.
