FNJ restructuring must, say activists

Kathmandu, May 15:
Media activists today stressed that the new leadership of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has to revamp the organisation.
Former president of FNJ Taranath Dahal said that the organisation is waiting to be restructured in the changed context.
“A policy level discussion is needed to define whether FNJ is a trade union, a professional institution or a mere non-government organisation,” he said while addressing an interaction at the FNJ central office at Media Village.
Another FNJ former president Suresh Acharya said that the FNJ facing a challenge to have the Working Journalist Act implemented. Binod Dhungel, the editor of Nepal FM, said the FNJ is waiting for purification that could be started by canceling membership of non-journalists.
Krishna Jwala Devkota, the editor of Naya Patrika, said FNJ should re-distribute
membership and establish new criteria for membership distribution.
