Trapped in tunnel

BEIJING: Eight workers were trapped on Saturday in southwestern China when a tunnel collapsed at a hydropower station, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported. It said it was unclear whether the incident was linked to Monday’s massive earthquake which left at estimated 50,000 people dead. Xinhua said dozens of police were trying to rescue the trapped workers at the station in the Jingpo area of Yunnan province, which was largely spared in the earthquake. Rescuers heard the voices of the workers, who were about 500 meters from the location of the cave-in, it said. — AFP
