Prime College win:
KATHMANDU: Laxmi Maharjan netted 18 points as Prime College thrashed FW Taylor 55-4 in the girls’ basketball match under Weeka Talentia. In boys section matches, Kathmandu Don Bosco College beat Xaviers College 42-23; Prime College beat Loyola College 75-18; and White House College beat St Xavier’s 40-24. — HNS
Lyceum School triumph:
KATHMANDU: Lyceum School, Universal School and The Eloquence School claimed top three spots in girls’ basketball at the Mid-North Winter Sports. In cricket, Siddhartha Vidyapeeth beat Constellation School by two wickets; Lyceum beat Unique by 75 runs; National Sungabha School beat Binayak School and Advance School beat The Eloquence, and entered the semis. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Gyan Niketan School is organising the fourth Gyan Niketan Big Mimi Running Shield Basketball Tournament from February 2. Various schools of the valley will take part in three different categories — senior boys, senior girls and boys. — HNS
World XI level series 1-1:
WELLINGTON: Matthew Elliott and Kumar Sangakarra hit half-centuries to steer a World XI to a three-wicket win over New Zealand in a limited-overs charity cricket international. Elliott scored 57 and Sangakarra 51 as the World team reached 257-7 in reply to New Zealand’s 256-9. Unbeaten innings of 37 by Australian Andy Bichel and 23 from 12 balls by Sri Lanka’s Chaminda Vaas carried the World XI past New Zealand’s total with two overs remaining. The win tied the series at 1-1 after New Zealand’s nine wicket win in the opening match on Saturday. — AP
