Rafael Nadal improved his record to 23-0 at the French Open by beating Nicolas Devilder of France 6-4, 6-0, 6-1 in the second round.

Venus Williams and Jelena Jankovic reached the third round. Williams beat Selima Sfar 6-2, 6-4. Jankovic was bothered by arm injury but beat Marina Erakovic 6-2, 7-6 (5).

Amelie Mauresmo of France lost to Carla Suarez Navarro 6-3, 6-4. James Blake lost to Ernests Gulbis of Latvia 7-6 (2), 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. Sixth-seeded David Nalbandian also lost, falling to Jeremy Chadry of France 3-6, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2.
