Sakcham win

KATHMANDU: Sakcham Youth Club of Jorpati won the Inter-club Football Tournament here today. Ramesh Tamang scored in the fourth minute of extra time to help Sakcham defeat Alapot Youth Club 2-1 final. The match headed for the extra time after a 1-1 deadlock in regular time. Ramesh had given Sakcham the lead in the seventh minute but Ujwol Thapa extended the match by equalising in the 15th minute. The winner and runner up got Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively. Third-placed World Sinamangal Club got Rs 3,000. — HNS

Flintoff back in action

MANCHESTER: England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff stepped up his comeback from a side strain after being named in the Lancashire side for Friday’s Twenty20 Cup clash against Yorkshire. Flintoff has been sidelined with the injury for six weeks but scored 56 on his return for the Lancashire second XI against Durham on Thursday and is now back in the first-team. Lancashire captain Stuart Law confirmed Flintoff would bat but not bowl at Old Trafford as he tries to get fit for the forthcoming Test series against South Africa. — AFP

Ferrer in final

S-HERTOGENBOSCH: Top seed David Ferrer of Spain reached his first grasscourt final with a 7-6 (7/4), 6-1 victory over Argentine teenager Juan Martin del Potro at the ‘S-Hertogenbosch ATP tournament on Friday. Ferrer fired six aces to seal his second victory over the Argentine. Ferrer will look to win his seventh career ATP title when he takes on Frenchman Marc Gicquel in the final. World number 60 Gicquel fought back from a one set deficit against seventh-seeded Argentine Guillermo Canas to prevail 3-6, 6-0, 6-4. — AFP
