Achham, July 10:

Food shortage continues to plague 25 VDCs of the Bhaisole area, seven VDCs of Chhabis area and 11 VDCs of the Pandrabis area of Achham district.

The food shortage persists because there is no depot of the Nepal Food Corporation in these areas.

“Though rice is available in Mangalsen, it has become a distant dream for us,”

Gore Buda of Dhakari VDC, which lies 55 km from Mangalsen, said.

“It’s impossible for us to bring rice from the district headquarters,” Prem Bohara of Rishidaha echoed. “We are tired of calling for the reinstatement of food depots,” Bal Bahadur Kunwar of Kamal bazaar said.

Chief of the NFC depot in Mangalsen, Dil Bahadur Thapa, said, “We have urged the NFC central office to supply us 10,000 quintals of rice. We will operate all depots based in the district once the demanded quantity of rice is supplied.”
