Girl found dead

GAIGHAT: The body of a 10-year-old girl was recovered from the Tawa river on Sunday, the police said, identifying the girl as Shanti Tamang of Sokla in Katari-8. The girl had been missing for two days. In another incident, locals found human skeletons in Harit Jungle of Udaypur’s Katari Maruwa on Thursday. The skeletons are of a child and a woman, police said. — HNS

Prisoners critical

RAJBIRAJ: Three agitating jailbirds of the Saptari prison are in critical condition. Putting forth their 11-point demand, 45 jailbirds of the prison have been staging a fast-unto-death since Saturday. Former coordinator of the prisoners’ agitation committee Sukh Ram Yadav said Bhikhan Sarik, Bhogendra Chaudhary and Binod Rauniyar were in critical condition. Among other things, the agitating jailbirds have been demanding amnesty and prison reform. — HNS

Houses gutted

MAHOTTARI: Two houses were destroyed in Ekdandabela VDC-1 of Mohattari district on Saturday night, the Mahottari District Police Office said. The fire was doused with the help of locals, the police said. — HNS
