Nuwakot, July 13:

An outbreak of dysentery has gripped Dangsingh VDC in Nuwakot district. The disease has killed one person and rendered around 200 villagers ill.

Lekh Kumari Khanal, a resident of Khanalgaun of Dangsing-8, died of the disease on Friday, said a local of Bhorlini, Hari Prasad Adhikari. Dysentery has been raging in Tallohile, Bhorleni, Khanalgaun and Hallekattike villages of the VDC for two weeks, Adhikari said. Some 200 persons have been suffering from the disease, he said, adding that children and elderly have been hit hard.

As the sub-health post based in Dangsingh VDC is without health workers, patients suffering from the disease have been deprived of treatment, Adhikari said.

The Nuwakot District Public Health Office, a team of health workers was dispatched to the affected villages today. As the villagers have been drinking contaminated water, the disease has spread in the villages, the office said.
