British defence chief in Dharan

ITAHARI: British chief of defence staff Michael Boyce inspected the Kirant Yakthung Chumlung Rehabilitation Centre in Dharan of Sunsari district on Sunday. Manager of the centre Kamal Tigela apprised Boyce about the human service activities carried out by the centre. He also visited the Ghopa Camp in the premises of the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS). Likewise, defence chief Boyce went to the Gurkha welfare office and met the former British Gurkha soldiers in phusre of Dharan. RSS

Industrial training

GULARIA: Office of cottage and small- scale industries, Bardiya organised a three-week industrial training for identifying problems that arise during operation of industries and mitigate them for smooth operation. Chairman of District Development Committee (DDC), Bharat Bahadur Shah gave away certificates to the participants and assured help from DDC if the trainees applied what they learnt into practice. The training was attended by 19 participants.

Blood donation

ITAHARI: Seventy-two persons took part in a blood donation programme organised by the Democratic National Youth Association, Nepal on the occasion of its fifth national conference in dharan on Sunday. The blood donation programme was organised taking into consideration the need of blood in wake of the present violent situation of the country, said mayor of Dharan municipality Manoj Kumar Meyangbo. Madan Mela halted

TERHATHUM: The Madan Mela, the biggest fair of the eastern region organised since the past 45 years in Sankranti bazaar of Terhathum district could not be held this year due to the state of emergency and the shifting of the area police office from the bazaar. Thousands of people from the eastern hilly districts of Panchthar, Ilam, Taplejung and Sankhuwasabha used to attend the fair where various kinds of amusement games as well as the traditional dances of the local limbu community is very popular. Locals here say that organising of the fair began in 2015 BS when rani Jagadamba, the wife of general Madan Shumshere Rana visited Aathrai region of Terhathum. The Jagadamba Ayurveda clinic and the rani primary school built following the visit of rani Jagadamba is still running. RSS

Six killed in bus accident

BUTWAL: Six passengers were killed on-the-spot and one on the way to hospital when a night bus (Lu 1 Kha 1721) heading towards Salyan from Kathmandu collided on-head with another night bus (Na 2 Kha 419) last night at Bhumahi Harakatta of Ramnagar VDC-1 of Nawalparasi district. Those deceased have been identified as Bharat Yadav posted at Armed Police Force Nepalgunj, Kewat Gharti, Man Kumari Pun, Kamal Rana and Jaya Kala Khadka of Rolpa district, and Lute Kumal of Rupendhi. One of those deceased has not been identified yet.

According to Nawalparasi district police office, of the injured, 16 passengers were in serious condition and 44 others sustained minor injuries. RSS

Stipends for disabled

TRIBHUWANNAGAR: Some 60 students of Dang and Rolpa districts were each presented with a stipend of Rs 1,000 amid a function here the other day. Tribhuwannagar mayor Amar Bahadur Dangi, Nepal blind welfare association Dang district chairman Ram Prasad Poudel, federation of nepalese journalists Dang district president Sushil Gautam and representatives from Swargadwari Ashram distributed the stipends to the students. The funds was received from Dang DDC. Tribhuwannagar mayor Amar Bahadur Dangi urged the disabled not to feel themselves inferior just on the ground of physical disability. RSS
