Nepal lose
KATHMANDU: Nepal lost to Myanmar 0-3 in the first match of the AFC Challenge Cup in Hyderabad on Thursday. Nepal held Myanmar to a goalless draw in the first half, but the Burmese tore through the Nepali defence and scored three goals in the second half. Nepal will play against Sri Lanka and DPR Korea in other two league matches. — HNS
Salina in final
KATHMANDU: Salina Maharjan of Lalitpur and Reshma Maharjan of Nuwakot entered the 20-25kg section final of the first Greenwich Bagmatiwide taekwondo (ITF) Tournament on Thursday. Salina defeated Kalpana Dhakal of Kavre, while Reshma outplayed Binita maharjan of Kathmandu in the semi-finals. A total of 110 players are taking part in the tournament that offers 24 gold medals. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Social Public School defeated Siddhartha Vanasthali 6-1 in the Group A match of the Coca-Cola Inter-school National Football Tournament here at the Dasharath Stadium on Thursday. Govinda Thapa and Puspa Chhetri scored two goals each, while Naresh Serchan and Sushil BK netted one apiece for the winners. Buddha Lama scored for Siddhartha Vanasthali. In the other match, Sautha School of Morang beat Deep Jyoti School 5-1. Prakash Giri struck twice, while Bishal Tamang, Rajin Dhimal and Megh Raj Budhathoki scored one each for Sautha. KATHMANDU: All Star Club of Tanahu is organisng the Zonal Knock out Football Tournament from August 4-13. A total of 10 teams are taking part in the tournament, said the organisers at a press meet on Thursday. The winners will receive Rs 50,000 and the runners up will get Rs 25,000. Hosts All Star Club, The Gurkhas United, Tribeni Club, Chitwan and Himalayan Sherpa Club are in Group A, while the Group B comprises Hairans Club, Baglung, Nawalparasi, Dhading and Kaski. Club president Manoj Kumar Shrestha and Tanahu FA president Ratna Kumar Shrestha among others were present on the occasion. — HNS
