Lalitpur, August 5:

Student leaders and members of several indigenous communities today stressed the need for introducing new education policy to end different forms of existing discrimination in the society.

President of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities, Pasang Sherpa, said the existing education policy should be revised to provide education to all and to wipe out the discriminatory system. The political parties should know what type of education policy people are demanding, Pasang, who is also a Constituent Assembly member, said.

Vice president of Nepal Rastriya Janajati Utthan Pratisthan Dikpal Kirati said there should be nationwide discussion on what kind of education policy should be incorporated in the new constitution.

Student leaders Ram Kumari Jhakri of ANNFSU, Bhim Rai of ANNFSU-Unified and Tanka Nembang said education, health and employment should be regarded as the fundamental rights of every citizen.

On the occasion, Dr Mukta Singh Lama presented a paper on ‘New Constitution and New Education Policy.’ Other speakers laid emphasis on establishing at least one multi-lingual university in every federal state in the future.
