KATHMANDU: Ladies here is

the perfect reason to start your festive shopping early — the Om’s Festival 2008 at Shogun Restaurant, Baber Mahal Revisited from August 21-24.

This is an exhibition that will cater to every woman’s dream of the perfect saree, dress material or something that you’ve only dreamt of. This exhibition showcases cocktail sarees, suit (salwar-kurta) pieces and western tunic designed and manufactured by Anuradha Bindra. Organised by Dolly Rana and Bindra, the exhibition aims to provide the best attire for ladies during this festive season.

“We have focused mostly on colours like red, orange and pink in sarees.

As festivals like Teej and Dashain are approaching, we felt the demand of these colours in Nepal,” says Bindra, who runs a boutique named Om in Delhi.

It has been more than two decades since Bindra started designing materials and clothes. “I don’t have any formal training and started it as a hobby designing for my friends in college,” says Bindra who specialises in Indo-Western designs making it perfect for the women of today who prefer comfort with class.

Bindra usually works with georgettes, cotton, linen, crepes and chiffon. Om is doing good business in India for its fabulous collection, and after shifting to Nepal in March, Bindra decided to give the Nepali market a taste of what Om customers in Delhi are talking about.

“I did a small exhibition at Soaltee for a select group of people,” informs Bindra. After seeing that the Nepali crowd was interested in her designs, she teamed up with Rana to give

the general public an opportunity

to adorn themselves with creations beautiful.

Bindra’s forte is dyeing and she has created some distinctive prints with nine different colours giving you one-of-a-kind design that is going to be talk of the party circuits for a long time. She mostly does designs like tunic and kurtis which have very classy western cuts but in Indian materials and embroidery keeping the traditional look intact. For sarees, she thinks georgette is the perfect material as it falls really well on the body, is easy to handle and makes one look slender and tall.

“We don’t have very heavy embroidery as used in wedding, but minimal yet interesting work of sequins, crystal, pearls, zardozi, just perfect for cocktails and other formal occasions,” says Bindra.

As she does all the designing and products are manufactured in her own store, orders are also taken according to a customer’s choice.
