Darwin, August 30:

An understrength Australia crushed Bangladesh by 180 runs in their one-day international here on Saturday.

The home side made 254-8 in the first of three match in what was to be a warm-up for the Champions Trophy in Pakistan before that tournament was postponed due to security concerns. In reply, Ban-gladesh mustered just 74, all out in the 28th over.

Left-armer Mitchell Johnson did the early damage for the hosts with 2-10, while leg-spinner Cameron White wrapped up the tail with 3-5. Only three Bangladesh batsmen made double figures, with opener Tamim Iqbal top-scoring with 21.

Earlier, Shaun Marsh anchored the Australian total with 76, while Mike Hussey made 82. However, Australia’s effort with the bat was overshadowed by the absence of star all-rounder Andrew Symonds, who was sent home for a disciplinary breach and won’t play any part in the series.
