Dharan should be developed as a medical city, said a renowned Indian doctor Prof KN Sharma, who was declared Indian Person of the Year-2007.

He made these remarks while speaking at a talk programme on ‘Medical in Future’ organised to mark the 95th birth anniversary of late Nepali Congress leader BP Koirala and 15th anniversary of BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences here today.

Dr Sharma, an executive director of the Bangalore-based MSR Medical Institute and Hospital, said Dharan had sufficient infrastructure to develop itself as a medical city.

Since the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences had been imparting medical study on par

with the international standards, Dr Sharma said Dharan had potentiality to be developed as

the medical city.

Also a founder member and former advisor to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Sharma expressed his confidence that India would continue to support the hospital.

He said Nepal and India should join hands in solving the health problems the countries has been facing, as health problems in both countries were identical.

It is to be noted that the then government of Nepal had awarded Dr Sharma with the Gorkha Dakshin Bahu in 1999 for his contribution to promotion of medical science in nepal.

On the occasion, Dr Sharma called on medical personnel to use their skills to treat a maximum number of patients.

“Human beings talk about attaining spiritual peace with their faith on invisible force. Now the time has come to test it in a scientific way”, he said.

Dr Sharma stressed the need to understand an interaction between “inner force” and language by physicians while operating on patients. This was the reason why Yoga, Rekki and other alternative treatment methods have been gaining popularity around the world nowadays, he added.
