Memorial block at library:

Charikot: Equipped with many facilities, Jiri higher secondary school in Dolakha district has added one more building to house the Ganga memorial library. The library building, in memory of late Mrs Durga Manandhar, a former teacher of the school, was constructed by her husband Balaram Krishna Manandhar. Balaram Krishna and his wife Ganga came to teach in the school 42 years ago. Gifted with an ability to win the hearts of students and guardians in a short period of time, Ganga died sometime later of brain tumour. Four decades later, her husband constructed the library building on the ruined site of the then school building at a cost of Rs 300,000. The building was inaugurated in presence of CDO Ambika Prasad Regmi and ex-parliamentarian and social worker Indra Bahadur Khadka. — HNS

Training on forestry:

SURKHET: A community forest management training concluded here recently.

Some 25 persons from community forests of Ramjanaki, Bhairajh, Kharkholi, Belghati, Janajagaran and Katkuwa village development committees of the district participated in the training, which was organised by the District Forest Office, Surkhet. Among others, the participants were trained on management and importance of forest and conservation measures. — RSS

Leprosy cases down:

SARLAHI: The number of leprosy victims in the district of Sarlahi has gone down, thanks to special awareness programmes and alertness of health workers. The district had the greatest number of leprosy victims in the past. While there were 1,000 leprosy patients five years back, the number has gone down to 328 at present. Of the 328 patients, 147 have been diagnosed recently. Some 127 patients fully recovered during the last fiscal year. The District Public Health Office has been carrying out programmes as per the government target of eliminating leprosy from the country by the end of 2005, according to health officer Raj Kishore Pandit. — RSS

Public hearing in Mugu:

MUGU: A public hearing was held at the district headquarters of Mugu with a view to informing the people about different programmes, projects and progress in development works. Chiefs of different government offices, representatives of organisations and the general public took part in the programme. The office chiefs answered queries of the people on the occasion. — RSS

Training on sign language:

TRIBHUVANNAGAR: A 10-month-long Nepali sign language and basic education training has been launched here. Twenty-five people, including the hearing impaired, are taking part in the training, which is being organised by the Nepal National Federation of Hearing Impaired Kathmandu and the Disabled Human Rights Concern Forum, Dang. — RSS

SUNSARI: The ninth general convention of Shanti Janakalyan Cooperatives has instituted a working committee in Hasposha VDC in Sunsari. While Tika Ojha and Bhamranta Shrestha have been reappointed as chairman and vice-chairman of the firm, Kamala Khadka, Dharma Giri, Pabitra raj timsinha, Khemraj Pokharel, Ramprasd Shah, Santosh Shrestha and Bed Prasad Bhattarai have been appointed as panel members. — RSS
