Biratnagar, October 5:
President of Nepali Congress (NC) Girija Prasad Koirala said today that he would do the needful to strengthen the party and never let groupism rear its head in the party.
Koirala was addressing a regional assembly function organised here today by the Morang district committee of the party.
Accusing the NC’s sister organisations of forgetting the party’s history, the former prime minister pledged to play an active role in changing the party in tune with changes the country has witnessed.
Stating that Nepal Tarun Dal, Nepal Students’ Union, Nepal Women’s Association and Nepal Trade Union Congress were born out of the revolutionary background of the party, Koirala said, “Now all NC-affiliated organisations should work in line with the party interest.”
Claiming that the other parties have been shying away from instilling a sense of nationality, he said, “The Nepali Congress should teach them a lesson and play a creative role as the
opposition.”
At the programme, Koirala also honoured octogenarian Nepali Congress activists Bhimraj Naulakha, Manohari Baral, Gopal Sharma, Torendraman Singh and Bhadalu Shah.
Koirala is in his hometown to celebrate the Dashain festival.
