Rome: Italy’s Serie A saw a flurry of red cards on Sunday as nine players received their marching orders across the seven matches.

Three teams lost two players, although Genoa still managed to beat Napoli 3-2 despite their sizeable numerical disadvantage.

Only one match of the day, Udinese’s clash with Torino, ended with the full compliment of 22 players on the pitch at the final whistle.

Chievo’s Francesco Scardina was the first to be dismissed after 37 minutes with a straight red card for a bad tackle on Fiorentina’s Franco Semioli. Juventus midfielder Momo Sissoko was next to to be expelled for a second yellow card against Palermo with four minutes remaining for the half time. But after the break the red cards started coming thick and fast.

AS Roma centre-backs Philippe Mexes and Cristian Panucci were both dismissed as they fell to Siena 1-0.

Sampdoria also paid for their ill discipline on the field as Pietro Accardi and Daniele Dessena saw red in their 4-2 defeat at Atalanta. Completing the role of dishonour on the pitch were Catania’s goalscorer Michele Paolucci and Genoa players Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Marco Rossi .
