One dead in Parsa clash, nine arrested

Birgunj, October 13:

A person was killed while another injured when two groups of locals clashed in Ramgadhwa Village Development Committee of Parsa today. The village remained tense throughout the day after the incident.

The two groups entangled in a row over the appointment of workers in a local Asian Distillery Pvt Ltd. Dev Narayan Raut of Ramgadhwa–4 was killed in the clash.

The relatives of the bereaved family burnt tyres at Ramgadhwa on the Padam Road to protest the killing and demanding punishment for the guilty.

According to an eyewitness, an irate group of locals severely beat up Dev Narayan after he stabbed one Asheshwor Raut of Ward No 6 of the same village. Dev Narayan, 40, who was critically injured in the incident, died while undergoing treatment at Birgunj-based Narayani Sub-regional Hospital at 12:30 pm, said police inspector KP Sharma. Police teams from

the District Police Office and Sripur Ward Police Office have been deployed to control the situation.

Dev Narayan Raut Kurmi’s group had been complaining for the last few months that Asheshwor’s group played foul while recruiting workers in the Asian Distillery Pvt Ltd. The same row led to a fierce clash today, locals said.

The police, meanwhile, arrested nine persons including Asheshwor Raut Kurmi, Janga Bahadur Kurmi, Daroga Patel and Jugal Kishor Patel on the charge of murder.

Police inspector at the Sripur Ward Police Office Gaju Siddhi Bajracharya said the personal feud turned into a gangfight between of the two persons, leading to the death of one.

One killed in Parbat brawl

POKHARA: Twenty-one-year old Padam KC was killed in a brawl between two groups of youths in Thamarjung of Parbat’s Tilahar-9 on Sunday night.

The brawl occurred over a row over a volleyball match between two youth groups on Sunday afternoon. Supporters of the opponent team had attacked Padam and his brother Madhav in the night, the police said, adding that Padam died on the spot. Police Inspector Dambar KC said Madav has been taken under control for investigation. Local youths Ganesh Basnet, Hom Bahadur Basnet, Bijaya KC, Nirmal Basnet and Indra Bahadur Basnet, who were involved in the clash, have been absconding and they are being searched, the police said. — HNS
