ANFA-Mayos final today

KATHMANDU:

The final of the ANFA-Mayos Inter-school Football Tournament between Kathmandu and Jhapa will be held on Saturday at the ANFA Complex. Kathmandu entered the final beating Dhankuta 6-5 in tie-breaker while Jhapa blanked Sunsari 4-0 in Thursday’s semi-final. The event has been jointly organised by ANFA, National Sports Council and Ministry for Education and Sports, under the sponsorship of Himalayan Snax and Noodles Pvt Ltd. — HNS

Binod Sainju returns

KATHMANDU:

Assistant judo coach at National Sports Council Binod Raj Sainju returned after taking part in the five-month coaching diploma course held in Germany from September 1. The course covered theory, science of training and exercise, sports medicine, sports psychology, sports pedagogy, sports massage, strength training and German language. He also earned third DAN and ‘A’ grade coaching license. — HNS

Zidane to retire in 2007

PARIS:

French soccer star Zinedine Zidane plans to hang up his boots when his current deal with Real Madrid runs out in 2007 when he will be 35. “I’ll finish in 2007 at the latest,” he said. “My contract runs to 2007 and I want to see it out but then I’ll end my career.” His Real Madrid team-mate David Beckham said he wanted to finish his career at Madrid. The England captain’s contract also runs to 2007. Zidane, FIFA World PoY in 1998, 2000 and 2003, retired from international football after Euro 2004. — AFP
