Kavre grapples with transport strike

Dhulikhel, October 21:

The bandh called by transport entrepreneurs in Kavre entered Day II today, paralysing the life in the district.

The bandh called by the transporters since yesterday to protest the killing of driver Sri Krishna Shrestha also affected the chance exam of Grade XII.

Shrestha, who was attacked by a criminal gang on September 7, died while undergoing treatment in Kathmandu on October 5.

Putting forth six-point demand including refund of Shrestha’s treatment costs, Rs 1m compensation for his family, free education for the offspring and employment for his wife, the transporters have called the agitation.

All long- and short-route vehicles stayed off the road today. Police had provided security escort to tourist vehicles to cross up to Sanga.

Acting chief district officer Krishna Prasad Pandey said the administration has detained some suspects involved in the attack and requested the Home Ministry to provide compensation to Shrestha’s family.
