Kathmandu, November 14:

The government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) today signed a $1.3 million project for the preparation and implementation of National Adaptation Programme of Action (NAPA) to climate change.

The Department of International Development (DFID) of the United Kingdom is providing $875,000 for the project, while the government of Denmark and UNDP/Global Environment Facility/Least Developed Country Fund are chipping in $2 lakh and $2.5 lakh respectively for the project.

This will help the government harmonise donor approach to address climate change issues,

the UNDP said in a press statement.

Joint-secretary at the Ministry of Environment Science and Technology Purushottam Ghimire and UNDP deputy resident representative for programme Ghulam M Isaczai signed the document.

“One of the objectives of the project is to enable the government to respond strategically to the challenges and opportunities posed by climate change through the preparation of National Adaptation Programme of Action, a strategic framework of action, the release stated.

Tony Burdon, deputy head of DFID said, “Nepal is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change.”
