Kathmandu, November 16:

The Nepal Academy of Medical Sciences today agreed to meet some of the demands put forth by employees of the Bir hospital by the end of November.

The hospital staffers launched an agitation on Thursday, accusing the administration of failing to maintain transparency. They have put forth a 15-point charter of demands.

Following talks with five members of the hospital administration today, the agitating employees agreed to operate Intensive Care and Radiotherapy units from November 30.

Talking to The Himalayan Times today, Laxman Aryal, spokesperson for the agitators’ talks team, said, “A team headed by senior consultant Dr Asta Ratna Bajracharya would submit suggestions to the administration within seven days. It would suggest ways to provide better services to patients admitted at the OPD and emergency wards.

“On November 24, the registrar and the health minister will hold discussions for the introduction of a new regulation to bring all employees at the hospital and nursing campus in one fold.”

According to Aryal, the hospital management has agreed to make much-needed machines, including X-ray machine, available in the hospital round the clock. “It has also agreed to end exploitation of labour. The management also agreed to fill up vacant posts,” he added.
