Change sought in Nepal Tarun Dal’s leadership

Kathmandu, November 18:

A task force commissioned by the Nepali Congress today met the central leaders of Nepal Tarun Dal with a majority demanding leadership change and making the Dal’s role effective.

The three-member task force, headed by NC central member Dil Bahadur Gharti, presided over hours of heated exchanges among the central committee members of the Dal.

The task force comprises NC central members NP Saud and Kamala Panta as members. Mahendra Yadav, who is also the member of Constituent Assembly and heads Tarun Dal, was with the Nepali Congress (Democratic) before its unification with NC.

“The members of the Tarun Dal have raised some grievances that surfaced after the unification and the task force will figure out ways to solve the problems within a few days,” said Gharti. He informed that the task force would be holding discussion with all sister

organisations before it reached the decision.

Members raised serious objection over what they say ‘ineffective role’ of its leadership and demanded to dissolve the present working committee and form an ad hoc committee until the next convention of the Dal. Half the members of the 75-member working committee were present in the meeting.

Disappointed members accused the leadership that it could not work as per the spirit of unification and the instructions issued by NC Mahasamiti meeting.

“The leadership of the Tarun Dal has violated the instructions of the Mahasamiti meeting by expanding working committees at the district-level unilaterally,” said former chairman Binod Kayastha.

Ineffective role of the Dal during the CA election, failure to defend against the violent activities

of the Young Communist League, inability to work as per the spirit of unification and not implementing the decisions of the Dal are the causes behind the failure of the Dal’s leadership, the discontented members blamed.

Central members suggested that the NC youth wing should follow democratic ways without developing any fighting force like the YCL or the Youth Force.
