Venus lift title

KATHMANDU: Venus School defeated Deep Jyoti School 25-22, 25-23, 25-16 to win the boys section title at the fourth SEB Inter-school Volleyball Tournament on Sunday. Hosts SEB School finished third with a 22-25, 25-11, 25-13, 25-8 victory over Sapta Gandaki School. Serlal Poudel of SEB School was adjudged the best player. In girls’ section final, New Diamond beat SEB School 25-16, 25-11, 25-19. Ramila Tandukar of New Diamond was declared the woman of the match, while Ganga Sarki of SEB School was named the best player. — HNS

‘B’ Division League

KATHMANDU: Star Club defeated Boys Sports Club 1-0 in the Martyrs Memorial ‘B’ Division League, organised by Nepal Football Association, here at the Dasharath Stadium on Sunday. After a goalless first half, Bimal Nepali scored the solitary goal of the match in the 62nd minute. In the earlier match, Brigade Boys Club and United Club played a 0-0 draw. — HNS

Judo Championship

KATHMANDU: Saptari District Judo Association, under the auspices of Nepal Judo Association (NJA), is organising the Lokendra Kumar Shrestha Memorial second Open Judo Championship at the Raj Stadium in Rajbiraj, Saptari, from December 16-17. A total of 21 teams — 17 districts, two Kathmandu clubs and two departmental teams — are taking part in the two-day event, said the organisers at a press meet on Sunday. The tournament features six weight categories in women’s section and seven in men’s section. — HNS

British Gurkha Cup

KATHMANDU: British Gurkha Group is organising the British Gurkha Cup football tournament from December 9-25. In all, 12 teams affiliated with the Group — Gurkha Development Bank, Suryadarshan Finance Company, Upakar Saving & Credit, Kumari Saving & Credit, Kalyan Saving & Credit, Swornalaxmi Saving & Credit, Bajrayogini Saving & Credit, Laliguras Saving & Credit, Mandala Saving & Credit, Himal Saving & Credit, Janamukti Multipurpose Co-op, Siddhartha Secondary Boarding School, and Gurkha Dip Saving and Credit — are taking part in the tournament, the organisers said at a press meet. — HNS

Youth Sports Meet

KATHMANDU: Democratic National Youth Federation (DNYF), Nepal Central Sports Department and Youth Force National Sports Committee are jointly organising the National Youth Sports Festival from December 19-21 in Kathmandu. The organisers have expected around 1,500 participants from across the country. The festival features competitions in eight disciplines — Shito Ryu Karate, Taekwondo, Weightlifting, Kho Kho, ITF Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Basketball and Athletics. The inauguration ceremony is slated for December 19 at the Dasharath Stadium, but the basketball tournament will begin from December 17, said Ajambar Rai, President of DNYF, Nepal at a press meet on Sunday. — HNS

LALITPUR: Puspanjali School defeated Crescent School 4-0 at the Fr Moran Memorial Invitational Inter-school Football Tournament. KATHMANDU: NOBS beat New Shrine 33-19 in the junior boys section match at the fourth Unique Inter-school Basketball Tournament. Also, Daffodil beat Gyan Niketan 29-12, Cambridge beat LRI 30-8, Shridiwa beat VS Niketan 30-19, and Elite Co-Ed beat Lyceum 34-10. In girls’ section, NOBS beat Reviera 25-10 and NIMS routed Cambridge 43-2. — HNS

Ranjit finishes sixth

KATHMANDU: Nepali veteran athlete Deepak Ranjit finished sixth in the

40-45 age category at the Standard Chartered Marathon held in Bangkok. Ranjit finished in three hours 11 minutes and 29 seconds in the race participated in by 32,000 athletes. Ranjit finished 61st overall. — HNS
