White House win

KATHMANDU: Himalayan White House defeated Prime College 46-33 and Nepal Basketball Academy (NBA) saw off Jhapa 44-35 in the basketball tournament held under the National Youth Sports Festival here on Wednesday. In other men’s section matches, South Siders hammered Kaski 111-33, Golden Gate overwhelmed Rupandehi 86-34 and Times College eased to a 75-41 victory over Revolver 75-41 riding on 17-point from national cricket team allrounder Paras Khadka. In the women’s section, Prime beat Golden Gate 31-23. —HNS

Campion in quarters

KATHMANDU: Defending champions Campion Academy and Einstein College made it to the quarter-finals of the second CPS Cup Inter-college Basketball on Wednesday. Campion crushed Unique 101-30 but the latter also made it through to the last eight. Einstein beat Reliance International College 75-47. Also advancing were JVC and CCRC. JVC saw off Grand Academy 65-25 while CCRC got walkover win from Campion. — HNS

AVM, Galaxy triumph

KATHMANDU: Adarsha Vidhya Mandir (AVM) defeated Brihaspati Vidhya Sadan by 46 runs and Galaxy beat Rajan Memorial by seven wickets in the fifth SNB Memorial Inter-school Cricket Tournament here at the TU Stadium on Wednesday. AVM scored 97-8 in 20 overs and dismissed Brihaspati for 51 runs in 12.1 overs. In the other match, Rajan Memorial scored 99-9 but Galaxy surpassed the total for the loss of three wickets in 18.3 overs thanks to a superb half century by Dipesh Agrawal (54). — HNS

Vaart unhappy

MADRID: Rafael van der Vaart may be unhappy at Real Madrid, but the Dutch international isn’t ready to abandon the struggling Spanish champions just yet. Spanish media reported on Tuesday that the 22-year-old Van der Vaart could be sold at the end of his first season at Madrid. The attacking midfielder has seen his playing time drop after an impressive start to the season. — AP
