JANAKPURDHAM: Two persons, who were injured when the police shot at them in retaliation, died in the course of treatment in Janakpur Zonal Hospital on Saturday night. According to Superintendent of Police Yadav Raj Khanal, the two had attacked a police patrol team at midnight in Bhramarpura of Janakpur municipality. The police had rushed them to the hospital for treatment. The police claimed that the dead were cadres of the Tarai Control Army. A country-made pistol was seized from the site. Meanwhile, TCA alleged that their cadres were murdered following arrest. — HNS

Three killed in mishap

RUPANDEHI: Three persons were killed and 18 injured when a jeep bound for Sandhikharka from Asurkot of Arghakhanchi district skidded off the road and fell 20 meters in Nuwakot VDC of the district on Sunday. According to the Western Regional Traffic Police Office Butwal, 10 passengers are seriously injured. The deceased are Sarita Shrestha of Pyuthan, Bhuwan Gaire of Khinji, Arghakhanchi and Rohit Shrestha of Bangla, Arghakhanchi. The injured are undergoing treatment in Sandhikharka-based district hospital and in hospitals of Butwal and Bhairahawa. — HNS

13 houses gutted

SANKHUWASABHA: Thirteen houses belonging to 13 families of Gumba village in Chepuwa VDC of Sankhuwasabha district, were destroyed in fire, damaging property worth Rs 2 million on Saturday afternoon, the police said. The damaged houses belonged to Wangdak Bhote, Nimagenjena Bhote, Dakchook Bhote, Renjin Bhote, Karung Bhote, Guru Bhote and Pimba Bhote. It was Wangdak’s house that first caught fire while food was being prepared for farm labourers. — HNS
