Phidim, February 13:
Forty-one VDC secretaries of Panchathar district, who had resigned en masse last September following the Maoist threat, have resumed work.
The local administration requested them to resume work but they had been reluctant after Maoists issued a second warning on January 14.
But after the February 1 royal announcement, the VDC secretaries joined their duty.
“We have resumed our works as usual,” Bhoominand Niraula, secretary of Angana VDC told The Himalayan Times.
“In response to repeated Maoist threats, all of us had postponed works by issuing a joint press release on January 22,” he said.
After the VDC secretaries resumed their works, social and development activities have started to run smoothly, said Janardan Sharma Adhikari, chief district officer of Panchathar.
Meanwhile, in Baglung too, VDC secretaries, who had resigned due to Maoist pressure, have resumed their duties.
They said they resumed their duties at the request of the civil society and local administration.
The work at the VDCs, which had come to a standstill after the secretaries resigned en masse, has resumed.
