Birgunj, January 12:
Two children, who were abducted from Chhapakaiya in Birgunj three days ago, gave abducors the slip and were handed over to their families today.
Sonu Karna, 11, and Akash Shrestha, 10, escaped by breaking the door of a house belonging to Ram Chandra Mahato Kushwaha in Bariyarpur-3 of Bara district and took shelter in a nearby home. The police later rescued them from there with the help of the locals.
Binod Mahato and Raju Yadav of Sonaraniya in Rautahat, who were living in a rented room in Sonu’s house since last week, had abducted the kids on Saturday. The duo had later taken them to Bariyarpur.
“The abductors thrashed us and threatened to kill us. We had lost all hope,” the kids told mediapersons.
The abductors had demanded Rs 1.5 lakh as ransom from the kids’ parents. Akash is the son of a transport entrepreneur, while Sonu is the son of a doctor.
“We have arrested Ram Chandra Kushwaha, Arati Kumari, Babita Kumari, Sabita Devi and Pinki Kumari for hand in the abduction,” police said.
