Kathmandu, January 18:

Chief Justice Kedar Prasad Giri today left for Singapore to take part in a three-day roundtable meeting of the Asia-Pacific Judicial Reform Forum 2009, which begins tomorrow to discuss on the major legal and judicial issues.

The meeting is being jointly organised by the Supreme Court of Singapore and the Forum. In the absence of CJ Giri, senior most Justice Min Bahadur Rayamajhi has been given the responsibility of acting Chief Justice as per the Interim Constitution.

According to the Supreme Court, chief justices of 49 countries and legal experts will participate in the meeting where they will discuss on promoting access to justice, reforms in the judiciary and settling backlog cases in an effective manner.

During the conference, Nepal is going to present a paper on judicial education skills.

Registrar Dr Ram Krishna Timalsena and Surya Parajuli, personal assistant of the CJ, are accompanying Giri. The CJ will return home on January 22.
