Rajbiraj, January 18:

Mediapersons in Saptari district today organised a mass meeting at Rupani section of the east-west highway for over two hours, demanding arrest and punishment for the murderers of journalist Uma Singh.

Addressing the gathering, central member of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Shambhu Jha alleged that the government was not ready to bring the culprits to book.

He warned of a stern agitation if the culprits were left unpunished.

Jha accused the government of trying to cover up Singh’s murder by arresting Constituent assembly member Baban Singh, who had said in the CA that he knew the murderers.

Senior journalist Shivahari Prasad Bhattarai said Singh’s murder had caused a huge loss to the country.

Kamal Dangal of Bishnupurkatti, Siraha, said the government had failed to provide security to Singh, who had made a niche for herself in the media sector within a short time due to her hard work and dedication to the profession.
