Jobs in abeyance

KATHMANDU: A meeting held between Tribhuvan University and the Nepal Indigenous Nationality Students’ Federation (NINSF) on Friday agreed to postpone the vacancy announcement for lecturers until new procedure for vacancy fulfillment was prepared. NINSF blamed TU for breaching the government policy of inclusion and urged the oldest university of the country to reserve 45 per cent of the total seats for the indigenous communities while recruiting lecturers. — HNS

Martyrs’ Week

LALITPUR: The Martyr Memorial Committee marked the first day of the weeklong celebrations of the 68th Martyrs’ Week by garlanding the statue of Shukra Raj Shastri at Pulchowk on Friday. The committee has been celebrating the Martyrs’ Week regularly ever since 2007 BS in memory of prominent martyrs Shukra Raj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Gangalal Shrestha and Dasharath Chand, who attained martyrdom while fighting against the autocratic Rana regime. — RSS

NBA team meets Prez

KATHMANDU: A team of Nepal Bar Association officials led by its president Bishwa Kanta Mainali on Friday met with President Dr Ram Baran Yadav at the President’s Office at Shital Niwas. During the meeting, discussions were on statute-making process and the NBA’s upcoming national convention. — RSS

Prachanda greets

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal extended congratulations to Herman Van Rompuy on assuming the office of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium. “I am confident that the friendly relations that have been existing between Nepal and Belgium will be further strengthened during Prime Minister Rompuy’s tenure,” the PM said in a press statement on Friday. Sippy says sorry

KATHMANDU: Ramesh Sippy, the producer of the Hindi movie Chandani Chowk to China, on Friday said the reference in the film on Gautam Buddha was inadvertent and unintentional. In a press statement issued on behalf of the entire unit of the film, Sippy apologised if the sentiments of the people of Nepal were hurt because of any reference in the film. “We regret if sentiments of the people of Nepal have been hurt because of any reference in the film.” — HNS
