Gaighat, January 26:

Janta Secondary School at Khabu of Ranibas

village development committee in Udaypur district was shut down for a week today after girl students suffered from an unknown disease.

The girls were showing symptoms of trembling and lack of appetite. The symptoms were seen in two girls — ninth grader Kobala Magar and seventh grader Dom Kumari Magar — yesterday, a school source said.

Likewise, 12-year-old Manju Magar, a sixth grader, and two fifth grader students — Yam Kumari Magar, 13, and Bhumika Timilsina, 10 — showed similar symptoms today, said Gopal Shrestha, a teacher of the school.

The school was closed for a week after the mysterious symptoms were seen only in girl students, the source said.
