Easy gun-toting

Easy gun-toting

By Rishi Singh

Gun culture is an impressive development in Nepal. People had heard about it with stories and films that portrayed the US wild west. But, there is no reason to feel sorry as our own brand of trigger-happy individuals are on the rise. The ten long years of insurgency may have ignited in many a desire to wield bullet power to get hold of what seemingly makes life worth living. It obviously is the crime-prone part that is most worrisome. Don’t let this make you think that a gun in possession is only to extract gold for a living. It could be a deterrent to others with fire power, that is save yourself by waving the gun in your hand. If it comes to the worst, your gun can speak the same lethal language as your adversary’s. Sounds inhumane, yet it is jungle law in the civilized land.

With the stakes so high, it is but an eventuality that people with the criminal bent of mind will get round to possess one. The demand makes the supply come around — for a price. As the reports go, a few thousand could be the distance between the buyer and the firearms. Well, the rising number of people in possession of a gun and the spouting guns is also enough to gauge the law and order situation. A few culprits land in the police net, but many just prove elusive. Draconian law against gun culture and strict enforcement is desired, but a gloomy outlook prevails at the moment.
