Rupandehi, February 10:

A group of students attacked the offices of Mechi-Kali daily and Tinau FM here this morning.

The students torched the copies of the daily for publishing a news about a case against seven local youths. The administration had filed a case against the youths after they thrashed Milan Sigdel, the owner of a mobile phone repairing centre at Amarpath, for allegedly replacing mobile phone parts with duplicate ones.

The students said they were enraged after the news portrayed their colleagues as thieves.

According to journalist Prakash Khadka, the students barged into the office and burnt copies of old issues of the daily near the newspaper office.

Though the students had barged into the office of the Tinau FM, security personnel foiled their attempt to vandalise the office. “Airing of the news bulletin of 10 am was delayed by 20 minutes due to the intervention,” an FM official said.

Students also blocked roads to Butwal, demanding release of their friends. They accused the administration of filing a false case against them.

The situation returned to normalcy after the administration agreed to resolve the case soon, the police said.
