Dhangadhi, February 17:

A gang of dacoits gunned down 60-year-old Gambhir Saud, a resident of Bhajaniya Katanpur in Sripur VDC-4 of Kailali district, last night.

Area Police Office, Malakheti, said the dacoits opened fire on Saud at around 3:15 am, leaving him dead on the spot. The gang also injured Gambhir’s 27-year-old son Prem by attacking him with khukuris when he tried to retaliate against the dacoits.

Prem, who sustained injuries in the head, is undergoing treatment in Seti Zonal Hospital in Dhangadhi.

District Police Office, Kailali, said the dacoits intended to loot Rs 130,000 that Saud had kept in his home. Saud had got the amount after selling his land. However, the dacoits fled without the cash after the neighbours knew about the incident and started coming towards Saud’s house to retaliate against the dacoits. The police have arrested Tika Saud of the same village on suspicion of his involvement in the incident.
