TMDP calls off protest programme

Kathmandu, March 1:

The Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party today said it would intensify its peaceful agitation in the coming days for the Madhesi causes. The party has suspended all protest programmes until the CA members complete the job of collecting people’s opinion on new constitution.

Issuing a press release here today, TMDP president Mahantha Thakur said the major issues related to the rights of the people of the Tarai-Madhes were yet to be addressed though the government had announced some cosmetic reforms through an “incomplete” ordinance on inclusiveness.

The said said due to pressures from the people’s level, the government was compelled to declare martyrs to those killed during the Madhes Andolan, making catalogue of the Madhesi communities, inclusive and proportional recruitments of Madhesi people in state organs through an incomplete ordinance, and its pledge to address grievances of security personnel who were victimised during the conflict were positive signs.
