NSU flays ANNISU-R

KATHMANDU: Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) has condemned undemocratic and anarchic activities of the Maoist-affiliated All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R). In a press statement issued by NSU, it said ANNISU-R was prohibiting NSU from registering its candidates for FSU polls. The NSU said the Maoist student wing had been inviting PLA and YCL cadres in campuses to terrorise other student unions. It further said the ANNISU-R had declared itself winner in many colleges like Agriculture College in Lamjung, Mandradoya Campus in Ramachhap and Jaljala Campus in Rolpa. The NSU asked the authorities concerned to investigate the incidents and act against the guilty. It also warned of protests if the ANNISU-R did not stop such activities. — HNS

Charles Sobhraj case

KATHMANDU: The Patan Appellate Court on Thursday decided to proceed the hearing on a case against Charles Gurumukh Sobhraj related to fake passport possession. The court decided to bring the file of the murder case against the French national from the Supreme Court. The SC is looking after an appeal by Sobhraj against the lower courts’ verdicts to convict him of a 1975 murder in Kathmandu. A division bench of Chief Judge Baidh Nath Upadhayay and Judge Madhav Prasad Chalise decided to proceed the case and sought to bring the pending murder case file from the Supreme Court as an evidence in the passport case. The apex court had referred the passport case to the Appellate Court. The bench today said that the next hearing on the case would be held once it receives the murder case

FSU polls’ preparation

KATHMANDU: Maoist-affiliated All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) on Thursday filed nomination of its candidates at four campuses in the Valley for the upcoming FSU polls. The ANNISU-R panels are led by Mangal Shahi at Baneswor Campus, Bikash Subedi at Koteswor Campus, Himal Sharma at TU Central Campus and Khagendra Parajuli at Pashupati Multiple Campus. The ANNISU-R said it had opposed the election at Public Administration College, Jamal, where NSU’s panel was reportedly elected unopposed. — HNS
