Lamjung, March 13:
Six students were injured when students affiliated with the ANNISU-R, the student wing of Maoists, and Nepal Students’ Union (NSU), the student wing of the Nepali Congress, clashed in Lamjung Agriculture Campus, Sundarbazar, today.
At least three NSU students — including campus unit vice chairperson Radhika Bartaula, Devendra Prasad Bhandari, Bibek Shrestha and Bishnu Dhital — were hurt in the clash.
The condition of Bhandari and Dhital is said to be critical and they were sent to Kathmandu for treatment.
Arjun Khadka and Prashant Sapkota of the ANNISU-R were also injured in the clash.
The Unified Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League cadres and ANNISU-R students attacked the NSU students when the latter went to padlock the election office, saying that the
ANNISU-R students barred other unions from registering nomination for the March 19 FSU polls.
The ANNISU-R students had locked up the injured NSU students in the campus chief’s office later. Police rescued them after three hours. The campus administration had called the
election committee, students and district based political parties for the talks. The NSU has demanded a fresh nomination process.
Meanwhile, students affiliated with the NSU and ANNFSU, locked seven lecturers — including campus chief — of Marsyangdi Multiple Campus in Besisahar in a room for an hour today.
They were demanding time for nomination of their candidacies for FSU polls after the ANNISU-R cadres barred them from filing candidacies in the scheduled time from 6 to 8 am.
