Kathmandu, March 27:

Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala said today that suspicion against the ruling Unified CPN-Maoist had been widened, as it had been intensifying ‘undemocratic and illegal’ activities. Addressing a meeting of the NC Parliamentary Party, Koirala condemned the Maoists’ demonstration against the Supreme Court.

Citing incidents of murder, manhandling and intimidation, Koirala said, “The Maoists seem to be heading towards heightening the problems instead of solving them.” Koirala also said the Maoists must implement past agreements — including dissolving the paramilitary structure of Young Communist League and returning property seized during the conflict — if they wanted to improve ties with the NC. “I have told the PM that the NC can consider joining the government only if the Maoists fully implemented the past agreements,” Koirala said. He also suggested the NC CA members to play an active role in the upcoming parliament session.

The PP meeting formed a committee comprising chief whip Laxman Prasad Ghimire, whip Shobhakar Parajuli and two general secretaries —

Bimalendra Nidhi and KB Gurung — to work out on how the party could play an effective role in the parliament, Ghimire said.
