MYAGDI: Locals of Phulachaur village development committee in Myagdi district are facing acute shortage of drinking water. The water crisis prevails in wards no 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the VDC. Daily life of students, housewives and job holders has been troubled. A stream in ward no 6 of Chipletibhanjyang VDC dried up setting in the woe, locals said. Nobody has taken an initiative to solve the problem yet, Sagar Paudel, chairman, Phulchaur Drinking Water Consumers' Committee said. An initiative of UNICEF and the government taken 30 years ago failed to construct a well-capacitated drinking water project. Locals demand that the district development committee, VDC and Nepal Water Supply Corporation take an immediate measure to resolve the crisis. 'We are forced to walk three hours to fetch water,' Nanda Prasad Dhungana of Phulachaur-1 said. The rearing of cattle has also been affected in the lack of water. Villager Ram Bahadur Bishwokarma accused political parties of doing nothing to address the problem, except trading charges. He said minor repair at the source and use of GI pipes would be an immediate solution. Bishwokarma said they were unable to provide drinking water even to passersby. CA member Govinda Paudel said budget should be allocated to ensure smooth supply, but presently, NWSC should have relief measures. An NWSC officer, Yam Chokhyal, however, said the water supplying body was not responsible for the maintenance. He said NWSC only monitors the projects approved by Ministry of Water Resources.
