Oli pins hope on forming national unity govt soon

KATHMANDU: Senior leader of CPN-UML, K P Sharma Oli, on Sunday claimed that a national unity government would be formed in the near future. Speaking to media persons after meeting NC president Girija Prasad Koirala at the latter's residence at Maharajgunj, he said there was no alternative to national unity government to lead the peace process to a logical conclusion. NC joint general secretary Arjun Narsingh KC informed that the duo talked about the Maoist's tendency to make arbitrary decisions and its violation of past agreements. Oli said that the UML did not accept the Maoist decision to form State Restructuring Commission unilaterally. He said, “The people did not vote the Maoists to run the government but to draft the new constitution. What is the meaning if the Maoists do not work towards that end?” He said that the UML would step out of the government if the Maoists continued their autocratic behaviour. Meanwhile, an informal meeting of the NC held at Koirala's residence this morning demanded with the government to withdraw the decision of formation of State Restructuring Commission. “The commission has been formed without consensus among parties. So it is against past agreements and the commitments of the Prime Minister,” said Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat after the meeting. He alleged the PM of lingering the process of monitoring, rehabilitation and integration of Maoist combatants in the capacity of the coordinator of the Special Committee. “The Maoists want to use the combatants even after the writing of the new constitution. So they are not interested to resolve the issue on time.” A central committee meeting of Tarai Madhesh Democratic Party (TMDP) today concluded that the government formed the State Restructuring Commission in non-transparent way and without political consensus.
