Officials off to Korea KATHMANDU: Twelve government officials from the Election Commission, Office of the Prime Minister and Ministry of General Administration left for Republic of Korea on Monday to participate in the election management programme organised by the Korea International Cooperation Agency. The programme is scheduled to start from April 21 to May 4. According to the Nepal Government, the prime objective of sending the officials was to familiarise them with Korea’s experience and techniques on the election management and the institution of the election. — THT Online

SAATHI hails bill KATHMANDU: SAATHI, a pressure group formed to pressure the government to draft the bill on Domestic Violence, has welcomed the approval of the CA to pass the bill on domestic violence. According to a press statement issued by the group on Monday, women weren’t safe inside their own houses. It further mentioned that women were helpless to such kind of abuse due to lack of specific law against domestic violence. — HNS NHRC urges action KATHMANDU: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) urged the government to take strong action against Raj Kumar BK, husband of Sita BK of Udyapur, who was alleged of pouring acid on his spouse on 2nd April. The press statement issued by NHRC on Monday, stated that they had requested Bir Hospital for Sita’s treatment, adding that she was under the protection of SAATHI. —THT Online

Chairman under fire KATHMANDU: Jana Morcha Nepal on Monday decided to suspend its chairman Sadhya Bahadur Bhandari for three months for defying the party statute. Organising a press meet, vice-chairman of Jana Morcha Nepal Bharat Dahal said Bhandari violated the code of conduct, collected money and used it for personal purpose and opened a separate party office at a guesthouse. “Because of this, the party has decided to suspend him,” Bhandari added. Meanwhile, the central committee meeting of the party also decided to launch Kathmandu-centred protest programme.— THT Online
