KATHAMANDU: A Public Interest Litigation demanding elections to the local bodies was filed at the Supreme Court on Sunday. Advocates Chandra Kanta Gyawali, Parshu Ram Upadhyay, Shiv Ram Timalsena and Bimal Gyawali jointly filed the PIL. The petitioners have made Prime Minister and the UCPN-Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and the major political parties as the defendants in the case. The petitioners stated that since the Interim Constitution had emphasised sovereignty to the people through local bodies, the absence of the local representatives would create a negative situation for exercising people's sovereignty. They also sought the apex court's intervention to immediately run the local bodies with political consensus before holding the elections.
